The 42nd Student Financial Aid Research Network (SFARN) Conference will take place July 10-11, 2025, at the University of Maryland, College Park. At a critical time when education and research are under serious attack, SFARN provides a vital space for researchers, policymakers, and advocates to unite, share insights, and advance research that protects equitable access to education. We invite proposals on pressing issues such as federal and state policy changes, college food insecurity, student loan debt, access for low-income and non-traditional students, updates on the “Better FAFSA,” and Pell restoration for incarcerated individuals. Join us in shaping the future of student aid research and policy.

The importance of encouraging students to apply early lies in maximizing their financial aid package and future awards. Some states operate on a first-come, first-served basis for state and institutional financial aid awards. This session will outline how to effectively market a FAFSA workshop using data-driven strategies to boost participant attendance. We will provide updates on Federal Student Aid (FSA) and share new FAQs, as well as address any lingering questions or challenges your participants may have. Our goal is to ensure everyone reaches a successful submission summary page.

What is FAFSA data, and what information do you have access to? How can you gather the necessary data? In this session, we will discuss examples of statements used to document participant eligibility and explore various methods for securing the information needed to complete your Annual Performance Report (APR). We will also cover how to identify resources for obtaining this information in your state.
